ERG 600 Green Business Conference

Join with others to do your part in protecting South Carolina's environment and become part of a sustainable community. This one-day comprehensive conference will provide you and your business, institution, organization or non-profit with new and innovative ways to go green and even save some money in the process. Sessions will focus on air quality, alternative energy, business recycling, green building, green cleaning, green hospitality, green landscaping and your facility's carbon footprint. In addition, the conference will feature green vendors, service providers and opportunities to earn CEUs.

ERG 1503 OSHA 8-hour HAZMAT DOT First Responder (Awareness Level)

This course covers a minimum of eight (8) hours of OSHA Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) handling and safety training required to successfully meet the Awareness Level qualifications. This course covers broad issues pertaining to hazard recognition at work sites. This program is intended to protect workers at hazardous sites and contains regulations and recommendations to ensure safety and health. This course, while identifying different types of hazards, also suggests precautions and protective measures to reduce or eliminate hazards at the work place. This will enable the student to identify hazardous materials, the different classes of hazardous materials, and how to respond to them in the safest manner. The course identifies the responsibilities of the first responders and the levels of training required for them. The DOT guideline book on emergency response will also be reviewed.

ERG 1100 Solar Technician and PV Technology

Description: http://www.yorktech.edu/CE/images/NABCEP.jpgYork Technical College is pleased to announce its recent designation as a Solar Energy Training Center by the State of South Carolina Energy Office. The photovoltaic (PV) or solar-electric industry is quickly becoming one of the more advanced manufacturing and installation sectors in the southeast and western United States. This class is ideal for those needing a refresher course in electrical theory and for those interested in entering the solar industry. This 40-hour course will review the fundamentals of electricity and follow the industry's leading training curriculum provided by Solar Energy International (SEI). Students will be introduced to solar cell technology and will learn how to design, size and install a complete working PV system. The National Electric Code (NEC) and complete system commissioning will also be discussed. A combination of classroom and hands-on field instruction will take place, preparing students to sit for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) entry level PV exam, administered on site at York Technical College following the last day of the course. (A separate fee of $80 applies for the NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam)City, County and State government rates available. (Ask about details when registering)
This course is approved for 24 CE hours for Code Enforcement Officers as determined by the South Carolina Building Codes Council. (Building Codes Council Course No: 150-11-01)

ERG 1103 Solar Technician Specialist Certificate

 

As part of York Tech's Solar Training Center, Solar Thermal Technology is offered as an economical alternative to traditional gas or electric water heating measures. The solar industry is quickly becoming one of the more advanced manufacturing and installation sectors in the southeast and western United States. This solar thermal course will introduce students to solar hot water heating and discuss the various types of systems, theories and installation techniques. This course is ideal for those in the plumbing, HVAC and construction industries interested in learning more about solar thermal systems or entering the industry as a business venture. This 40-hour course will review traditional hot water heater technology and apply those principles and competencies as they relate to solar thermal technology following the industry's leading training curriculum provided by Solar Energy International (SEI). Students will learn how to design, size and install a complete working solar thermal system through classroom and hands-on field instruction, preparing students to sit for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Solar Heating Entry Level Exam. ERG 1104 Energy Technician Certificate

Solar PV electric (ERG 1100) and Solar Thermal Technology (ERG 1103) are embedded within this certificate as technicians perform a variety of supervised renewable energy functions including the design, sizing and installation of systems. In addition to renewable and solar energy training, the Energy Technician Certificate also provides the Fundamentals of Energy course, transgressing all energy sectors (coal, electric, nuclear, biomass, renewable) and the various storage, generation and transmission technologies associated with each. BPI and home/building weatherization techniques are also taught, allowing students to earn the Building Performance Institute (BPI), 10-hour OSHA Safety for the workplace and NABCEP PV Entry Level credentials. This certificate is 240 hours; Students who have successfully earned the Solar Technician Specialist Certificate need only to take BPI/Weatherization and Fundamentals of Energy to earn the full Energy Technician Certificate. Students may choose to take any combination of the above courses separately to fit their schedules or in the presented pre-packaged format.

ERG 1200 Licensed Pool Operator

Based on state of South Carolina DHEC regulations, this class provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to safely operate a pool or spa. The test is administered at state designated computer based testing locations, but all information needed to prepare for the test is provided.

ERG 1202 Certified Pool Operator

This course is designed to provide individuals with the basic knowledge, techniques and skills of pool and spa operations and enables you to obtain the National Swimming Pool Foundation's Certified Pool Operator credential, a national certification recognized and widely accepted by health departments, hotels and fitness centers internationally. The seminar is taught by a certified CPO instructor and covers information from the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF) Pool and Spa operator handbook. The exam is provided the second day of the course and graded on site. Students receive a manual and math book which is included in the course fee. Certification fee is also included.

ERG 1201 Physical/Chemical Wastewater Review

LEVELS A, B, C & D. This program covers process units such as pH control, neutralization, chemical precipitation, clarification, solids handling and advance treatment including metals recovery and water recycling. Meets requirements for 8-hours towards recertification

These advanced math courses are beneficial for water and wastewater operators who are preparing for an advanced level state certification exam or for operators who desire a refresher course in mathematics. Courses involve learning advanced math calculations that apply to treatment facilities. Topics include a general math review and problems related to coagulation, chemical feeders, clarification, chlorination, fluoride, filtration, hydraulics, motors, pumps, and flow rates.

ERG 1244 Well Driller Regulation Review

Between July 1st and June 30th, of every odd year, every well driller must obtain twelve (clock hours) continuing education units. The South Carolina Environmental Certification Board accepts continuing education for licensed well drillers as courses that are relevant to well drilling or well construction. Examples of relevant material covered in this course includes: safety, operation and maintenance of equipment, geology, math, engineering, environmental subjects, first aid and water chlorination.

ERG 1300 Refrigerant Recovery

The EPA requires certification in the handling of materials used by refrigerant technicians.  This class prepares students for that exam. Students have the opportunity to take the exam. Immediately following successful completion of the class. (This material taught in our CFC certification course can be applied towards the Universal Refrigerant Certification).

ERG 1402 Pulp and Paper Certificate I

This 6-week Pulp and Paper Certificate is the first of two (2) certificates and introduces students to the pulp and paper manufacturing industry. It also provides additional training in the areas of computer skills, personal/communication skills and teamwork as they relate to the industry. Manufacturing skills and safety will also be taught via the Manufacturing Skills Standards Certification (MSSC) exam, giving students the opportunity to earn the title of Certified Production Technician (CPT), a highly desired credential for technicians in manufacturing industries.

ERG 1501 40-hour HAZWOPER (Online)
32-Hours Online Training & 8-Hrs Hands-On

Content for the academic portion of the course will be provided through web sites, text, manuals, assignments and exercises. Students will also be required to participate in 8 hours of hands-on training in the proper use of personal protective equipmen (PPE)t, site control, safe work practices, and the use of engineering controls an employee can use to help the employer reduce waste site hazards.

ERG 1502 8-hour HAZWOPER Review

Course required annually to maintain HAZWOPER qualification. Topics reviewed and updated include hazards, safety plan, toxicology, hazardous communication, monitoring, handling procedures, medical surveillance, personal protective equipment, and decontamination. Field exercise included.

ERG 1504-001 EPA Lead Based Paint Renovate, Repair and Painting (RRP) Program

This course meets the requirements for the National EPA lead based paint certification and recertification credentials. April 2010 was the EPA implementation date for new rules for contractors who renovate or repair housing, childcare facilities or schools built before 1978. Under the new rules, trained contractors and workers must follow lead-safe work practice standards to reduce potential exposure to dangerous levels of lead during renovation and repair activities, specifically builders, painters, plumbers, and electricians. As of April 2010, this certification was made for anyone who could potentially expose children to lead dust during renovation activities. Make sure you and your firm comply with this regulatory mandate by taking our Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting course. Enrollment will close 7 days prior to the course offering date in order to notify EPA of student information in a timely manner. Students will be asked to provide their home address, birth date and social security number for EPA record keeping purposes. All information is kept strictly confidential.

ERG 1505 Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) & Advanced Extrication

The class will provide an introduction to Hybrid and Electric Vehicle (HEV) technology and discuss the opportunities and constraints of these emerging vehicles as they relate to traditional automobiles. Safety measures and maintenance practices will also be discussed. This course will also focus on advanced extrication procedures for Hybrid and Electric Vehicle accident victims. Students will participate in hands on safety training and extrication procedures to ensure proper victim and patient removal from a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle. Students will have the opportunity to operate extrication equipment (rescue cutters, spreaders, combination tools, rams, etc.) to simulate real life rescue situations. Students are strongly encouraged to bring their own Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), consisting of a hard hat/helmet, eye protection, leather gloves and steel toe or leather boots. Students are asked to bring a long sleeve shirt and pants to be worn during extrication activities. An Emergency quick reference guide and a First Responder Training Manual for Hybrid/Electric Vehicles will be provided and should be kept with First Responders at all times. Ideal for EMTs, Fire Fighters, Emergency/Medical Personnel, Police Officers, First Responders and those with potential interaction with Hybrid or Electric Vehicles.

ERG 1600 Sustainable Agriculture Certificate

York Technical College, in cooperation with the Farm Service Agency, is pleased to announce a new certificate program in Sustainable Agriculture. Students will participate in a combination of classroom and hands-on learning exercises with small scale farm equipment, greenhouses and hand tools to learn sustainable farming practices and simulate a growing and production operation. Students will also have the opportunity, if they choose, to manage and cultivate their own plot of land following completion of the program with access to college equipment, marketing and business planning services to help accelerate their business. Access to a full service commercial kitchen for canning, cutting, and curing of value added products to sell at market will also be available. This program is offered in individual modules or as a cumulative Sustainable Agriculture Certificate Program. Topics covered will include Plant Anatomy, Soils, Water and Crop Management, Crop Production/ Propagation, Composting and Fertilizing, Pest and Weed Management, Plant Pathology (Diseases), Crop Harvesting and Nutrition, Farm Management/ Finances, Crop and Field Planning, and Produce Marketing. ERG 1700 Biofuel Production Technology

If you're interested in running your vehicle on biofuels and want to learn how to make it at home, then this is the course for you. York Technical College's Biofuel Production Technology course will allow students to learn first-hand, the chemistry and processes used to produce biodiesel while learning about the various other forms of bio-derived plant based fuels. Students will have the opportunity, through classroom lectures and lab time, to produce their own biodiesel, derived from used greases and oils. The course caters to all levels of ability. You'll learn what biofuels are, and how biodiesel rates, performance wise, to regular diesel and gasoline products
