POSITION:                Information Resource Consultant II – Information Technology Department (YTC and SC Technical College Employees)

 

STARTING SALARY:  $44,382.00 per year; ($44,382.00-63,245.00 Hiring Range) actual starting salary may be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  (Band 07/Class AJ46/00107)

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:         Bachelor degree and three (3) years experience in automated information or communication system design, installation, operation, repair, sales or marketing.  Related experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge of communication/information systems.  The knowledge, skill and ability needed for problem definition and solution.  Program/project management skills along with the ability to work in a team is necessary.  Technical training is required in computer and network disciplines.  Good written and oral communication skills.  Extensive knowledge of PC Operating Systems and Network Interfaces.  Knowledge and technical expertise in network security.  Knowledge of computer system analysis, design, testing and maintenance techniques.  Ability to establish and maintain effective relationship with faculty, staff and students.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Determines and implements appropriate network and computer related security policies.  Consults with vendors on various hardware and software systems to provide for enterprise level information security.  Monitors various intrusion detection and threat assessment tools and takes appropriate actions to secure network resources to include network redesign projects when appropriate. Installs and maintains firewalls, VPNs, devices that support IEEE 802.1x and other network security related protocols.
  2. Responsible for installation, configuration, operation, management and support of the switch-routers, routers, switches and the other associated network and security hardware and software needed by the college to support all information resources.  Assists in the design, development and implementation of various campus networks. 
  3. Provides technical consultant services regarding the design, development and operation of information systems to college personnel from all academic and administrative divisions.  Provides technical consulting for hardware and software to other academic and support divisions.  Uses various Ethernet packet capture and protocol analysis tools to support the development and deployment of client-server based application software.
  4. Installs, operates, manages and support servers to provide network and security support services to all campus computers.  Troubleshoots complex network problems and manages Internet Protocol (IP) address sub-netting and utilization.
  5. Performs other related duties as requested.
