POSITION:  Assistant Director – Child Development Center (HHS Division) Full-time

                     (Position # 118413, Class Code/Slot CB35/0008, Band 03)

 

MINIMUM STARTING SALARY:  $20,452.00 PER YEAR, (Hiring Range $20,452 – 29,145.00), actual starting salary is commensurate with experience and education.

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:  Associate degree and two (2) years of child development classroom teaching work experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.  One or more year’s supervisor experience.  Prefer at least nine hours of college course-work in administration, leadership, or management and 24 hours of college coursework in early childhood education or a related field within the BA/BS.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Comprehensive working knowledge of early childhood education concepts, best practices, and developmentally appropriate curriculum.  Through knowledge of SC-DSS and DHEC regulations, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.  Excellent organization and communication skills.  Knowledge of tuition payment software, preferably Procare.  Knowledge of child development principles and practices.  Knowledge of safety and health regulations.  Ability to supervise and plan the work of others and provide training opportunities.  Discretion and judgment in addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Assists in the planning/implementation of developmentally appropriate activities/curriculum that advance all areas of children’s development and learning including all developmental domain competencies; assists in conducting the program in accordance with the Center’s goals and principles, including interaction with children; lesson plans, schedules, snacks and meals, and parent and student interactions.  Also processes tuition payments using Procare software and prepares deposits, collects tuition as needed, prepares accounting reports and participates in audits.  Performs all basic clerical duties involved in the operation of the office.

2. Manages the Child Development Center in director’s absence and performs lead teacher duties, as needed.

3. Helps coordinate the daily operation of the Child Development Center to meet all health, safety, licensing, and accreditation standards; supervises and provides staff development opportunities for teachers; coordinates observations and student practicum activities throughout the Center.

4. Recommends purchases of instructional materials and teaching aids such as books, toys, and games designed to stimulate learning; assists director in interviews and recommendations of hiring teaching and service staff.  Confers with parents regarding facility activities, policies and enrollment procedures, confers with teaching staff regarding child’s behavior or learning problems, and recommends methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences; confers with students about their assignments, lab activities and learning challenges; arranges medical attention for ill or injured child in accordance with parental instructions.

5. Performs other related duties as required by the director.
