Instructional Development Offerings
Learning for the 21st Century: Tradition + Innovation This course is designed to provide an overview of York Technical College's expectations for competency-based education, campus resources and procedures, teaching and learning principles and strategies, and student assessment. The individual modules are designed primarily for new instructors; however, any instructor is encouraged to participate. The course will be delivered primarily online via WebCT and will be self-paced with a guided timeline. Participants will meet in a general orientation session to determine the monthly meeting schedule. Participants are encouraged to participate in online discussions and professional development throughout the school year. Module 1: Campus Resources and Procedures Module 1 will address classroom management, instructional procedures, and student and faculty resources.
Module 2: Teaching and Learning Module 2 will address teaching principles, techniques, and strategies and using technology in the learning process.
Module 3: Assessment of Student Learning Module 3 will address formative and summative classroom assessment and evaluation, focusing on alignment of assessment techniques with teaching/learning objectives.
Module 4: Competency-Based Education Module 4 will address how YTC uses the competency-based approach to education. DACUM, the role of business/industry, identifying program and course competencies, and writing course syllabi will be reviewed.
