Regulations
General Regulations
-
The operation of
motor vehicles on York Tech College property is a privilege
granted by the College administration.
-
Failure to comply
with the laws of South Carolina or College regulations will
result in a warning or penalty that may include the loss of
motor vehicle privileges.

The purchase of a
permit does not guarantee a parking place, but merely allows for
general parking in an appropriate area.

The College shall
assume no responsibility for the care or protection of any
vehicle or its contents at any time while operated or parked on
College property.
- Regulations apply
to drivers of all vehicles and are in force 24 hours a
day unless other wise noted.

Drivers of all
vehicles shall obey the lawful instruction of any Public Safety
Officer and any official traffic sign on campus.

Parking areas are
enforced at all times.
Owners of
disabled (broken down) vehicles should contact the Department of
Public Safety. Disabled vehicles not registered are subject to tow
at the owner's expense. Any vehicle left abandoned for more
than fifteen days is subject to being towed at the owner’s expense.
Permit Placement
PERMITS SHOULD BE
PERMANENTLY ATTACHED TO THE OUTSIDE REAR WINDOW ON THE BOTTOM LEFT
SIDE OF YOUR VEHICLE. Note: If you are driving a convertible, or
truck with a camper top, the permit must be placed on the left rear
bumper. For motorcycles, affix the permit to the front fork .
Vehicle Registration
Registration
Regular vehicle
registration is for one semester beginning with the first day of the
semester and ending with the first day of the following semester.
The registrant of a vehicle is responsible for parking violations
issued to his or her vehicle.

Students are only
entitled to register two vehicles. However, in certain
circumstances a student may be allowed to register more than two
vehicles.

Permits are not
transferable to another vehicle.
Accidents
Traffic accidents
that take place on the York Technical College Campus are to be
reported immediately to the Department of Public Safety, ext. 8013
or at (803) 327-8013 if not using a campus phone.
Parking Areas
AUTHORIZED
PARKING AREAS, AS INDICATED BY SIGNS , ARE DESIGNATED AS FOLLOWS:
- Open Parking- all
vehicles bearing any valid York Tech College permit may park
daily in areas marked open.

Only vehicles with
handicapped placards issued to the person in the vehicle are
allowed to park in the handicap parking spaces.

Anyone with a
temporary disability may apply for a College permit to park in
one of the York Tech College space marked “Permit Only."
Places You Should Not Park:
Note: All areas not specifically designated for parking are
considered "No Parking" zones.
- Visitor parking.
- Areas marked with
yellow curbs or lines.
- On a pedestrian
crosswalk.
- Reserved spaces
unless authorized.
- Where there are
"No Parking" signs.
- Loading zones
beyond posted time limit.
- In front of
Dumpsters.
- Fire Zones
- Unmarked spaces.

The area between
Bldgs. F and G and the area between Bldgs. C and D unless
approved by the instructor and a permit is issued to the vehicle
for the “Daily Parking."
No one should use a handicap parking
permit issued to another person.
SECTION
56‑3‑1970. Unlawful acts; penalties.
It is unlawful to
park any vehicle in a parking place clearly designated for
handicapped persons unless the vehicle bears the distinguishing
license plate or placard provided in Section 56‑3‑1960.
It is unlawful for
any person who is not handicapped or who is not transporting a
handicapped person to exercise the parking privileges granted
handicapped persons pursuant to Section 56‑3‑1960.
A person violating
the provisions of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon
conviction, must be fined not less than one hundred dollars nor more
than two hundred dollars or imprisoned for not more than thirty days
for each offense.
Vehicles in Motion
- The maximum legal
speed on College property is 15 miles per hour.
- Vehicles must stop
for pedestrians at marked crosswalks.
- South Carolina State
Highway Regulations apply on York Tech College property at all
times.
Towing, Immobilization, and Impounding
The Department of
Public Safety has the authority to have a vehicle towed,
immobilized, and/or impounded at the owner’s expense and risk if the
vehicle is:

Blocking a
driveway or service entrance, creating a hazard to safety, or
parked in a reserved space.

Any vehicle left
unattended for more than fifteen days.
- Fees for vehicles
towed to the contract wrecker service must be paid to the
wrecker service.
- Once the
contracted wrecker service has been called to impound a vehicle,
the tow fee must be paid prior to the vehicle being released,
regardless if the owner arrives on the scene prior to the
wrecker service.
Violations, Penalties, Bonds
- Penalties and bonds
are payable in person or by mail at the York Technical College
Cashiers Office between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Penalties and bonds
for moving violations will be determined by the appropriate
authorities.
Parked Vehicle Violations
- Parking fines
range from $5 to $20 .
