Ekaterina's Story Working in Tashkent after
finishing her degree in education at the university there, Ekaterina
Shevchenko met her future husband, an American traveling in
Uzbekistan, also a graduate of York Technical College. The two fell in love, married, and moved to South Carolina. Ekaterina is enjoying the states, and she says that York Tech has enabled her to fulfill a dream of majoring in finance and accounting. In addition, she says, “I’ve had a great chance to improve my English skills. Following a trip home this summer to see family and friends, Ekaterina hopes to enroll at Winthrop. In the meantime, she enjoys cooking, especially pilaf, “a traditional meal made from rice, meat, and carrots.” She adds that life is sometimes easier for women in the states because of appliances in the kitchen. “At home, we make everything from scratch.”
