Gail's
Story “Reading Opens a New World” Gail George, after returning to York Technical College, insists that the key to success in college is reading. “Reading opens a new world.” In fact, George, the mother of four, has enjoyed reading since childhood, and she does not hesitate to say that “school was the place to succeed and achieve recognition when I was young.” She continues to achieve recognition for her studies. As a Rad Tec (Radiologic Technology) major, George has maintained a 3.97 GPA. When her children were younger, George finished York Tech with a degree in Accounting, and she did homeschooling. “Teaching helps me learn. It always has, and I have taught a lot of religious classes.” Through NAVTEP, she acquired a scholarship which enabled her to return to college. George has always wanted to work in some area of medicine. To be certain, though, she completed two certificates: one in MOA, the other in Phlebotomy. “Then, I did an internship in Oncology, and I loved working in Oncology.” She continues, a twinkle in her brown eyes, “I am a life-long learner. Even after I graduate in 2008, I plan to get more certification in other radiologic practices. She has enjoyed her work at the college. George appreciates the scholarship and the variety of programs and student activities. “Gwen Wilson, Beth Wyatt, Dot Michum, and Charles Gregory have especially inspired me, and I love Web CT.” Now that her children are
older and her husband’s job requires some traveling, this life-long
learner has more time to study and read. For her academic
excellence, Gail George was invited to join the Radiologic Tech
Student Honor Society and included on the President’s List. |
