Lisa's Story The mother of two children, Lisa Knecht has finally discovered what she wants to do for the rest of her life, and she is thrilled. Her large, dark eyes talk as she discusses her classes in nursing and her plans. “I’m the first member of my family to attend college. My husband and children are extremely supportive.” After her classes at York Technical College, Lisa picks up Jonathan and Katlyn, and they all play for awhile, inside if it’s cold and rainy, or outside when the weather is warm. “That’s our time.” After play, Knecht goes over her children’s homework assignments and prepares supper. While they watch television, play, or read, Lisa does her homework. After the children go to bed, Lisa pours over the books and retires around midnight. “I am so happy,” she continues. In addition to home and school, she manages to work out, sell Mary Kay Cosmetics, and work part-time at Metrolina Medical Associates. “I’m determined to meet my goals.” She will graduate in July with her LPN Degree. After a short rest, she plans to continue with the RN. “I love people, and I want them to feel better about themselves….professors and students have inspired me at school, especially “Dr. Martha Macdonald. She believed in me.” |
