ADMISSION BY TRANSFER
LPN ADVANCED PLACEMENT

ENTERING FRESHMEN

 High school diploma or GED

 One course of high school college-preparatory general chemistry or CHM 101 or equivalent chemistry with a grade of "C" or above.

AND ONE OF THE FOLLOWING

 Minimum SAT Scores (Before April 1, 1995):

800 Total with at least 400 Verbal & 400 Math

OR

Minimum SAT Scores (After April 1, 1995):

920 Total with at least 480 Verbal & 440 Math

OR

Minimum SAT Scores (After March 1, 2005):

480 Critical Reading/400 Math/
920 Total for these portions only

OR

 Minimum ACT Scores:

20 Composite with at least 21 English & 19 Math

OR

Graduation from the York Technical College Practical Nursing program, completion of BIO 210 and BIO 211 with a grade of "C",  meet the prerequisite for Math 110 and completion of RDG 101 or equivalent placement test scores

OR

Completion of all required non-nursing general education courses,
including electives, with a GPR of 2.50 or above

Students whose Reading score is below 88 on the COMPASS placement test or below 46 on the ASSET placement test must successfully complete all required reading coursework in addition to the courses listed above.

ADMISSION BY TRANSFER

Transfer credit may be given for courses taken in another 
Associate or Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program to a 
student meeting the following criteria:

1.  The student must meet present admission criteria to the Nursing Program.

2.  The student must submit a letter from the previous school attended stating that he/she left in good standing and is eligible for readmission.

3.  The student must provide the nursing department manager with a detailed course syllabus showing course and unit objectives and a clinical evaluation tool indicating criteria met in the clinical component of the courses.  Courses for which transfer credit is given must meet the objectives of the comparable York Technical College/University of South Carolina Lancaster courses.

4.  The student must demonstrate competencies in the course to be transferred either by exam, by previous grade and documentation or both.

5.  The Nursing Evaluation Committee will review requests for transfer credit and will make a recommendation for official action to the Registrar/Admissions Officer.

6.  The York Technical College/University of South Carolina Lancaster Cooperative Nursing Program is considered by the State Board of Nursing for south Carolina to be one nursing program administered jointly by York Technical College and the University of South Carolina Lancaster.  Only those students in good standing or eligible for readmission will be considered for transfer.

7. Admission by transfer is on a space available basis.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT

REQUIREMENTS

Students will be admitted based on The South Carolina Statewide Articulation model:

DIRECT TRANSFER:
A minimum of 15 semester hours of nursing credit will be awarded without educational mobility testing or validation if the applicant meets the following criteria:
--Graduate from an NLNAC
--Has a current, active LPN License
--Meets admission and progression requirements of York Technical     College/University of South Carolina-Lancaster

INDIVIDUAL VALIDATION or..
Individual validation of credit awarded will be determined by the receiving institution through exemption testing if the applicant is a:
  --Graduate from a non-LNNAC accredited program,
  --Graduate from a non-credit bearing program

A minimum of 15 semester hours of nursing credits will be awarded upon completion of validation if the applicant meets the following criteria:
  --Has a current, active license
  --Meets admission requirements of York Technical College/University of      South Carolina-Lancaster

DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED AFTER ADMISSION
1.  Must have completed health form
2.  Current CPR Certification for child, infant, and adult
3.  Proof of health insurance
4.  Proof of liability insurance
5.  SLED criminal background check.  A SLED check is a mandatory requirement for clinical rotations in which students provide care to patients, residents, or clients in nursing homes, day care facilities for adults, home health agencies, or community residential care facilities.  The background check is submitted to the York Technical College/USCL Nursing Program Director.
6.  LPN admitted to the program is required to enroll in NUR 201, Transition Nursing and complete it with a grade of "C" or better.  Candidates may take NUR 201 before the first nursing course or simultaneously with the first nursing course taken.

NOTE:

Upon meeting qualification requirements for the program, applicants are required to pay a $50 nonrefundable, nontransferable fee in order to be placed on the list of qualified applicants.

A $100 nonrefundable, nontransferable deposit will be required at the time applicants receive their confirmation letter and acquire a slot for their program.  This $100 deposit will apply toward the student's first semester tuition after entering the Associate Degree RN Program.

Students must maintain a minimum GPR or 2.0 at all times on the general education courses for the Associate Degree RN Program to be eligible to remain on the list of qualified applicants.
