Program Overview

The Building Construction Trades program is a comprehensive program that combines academic instruction and practical, hands-on training. Students receive instruction in safety, estimating building costs, carpentry, cabinet making, residential and commercial wiring, residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC, print reading, brick masonry, and building codes.

The building industry faces a shortage of 65,000 to 80,000 skilled craft workers each year. This shortage is expected to continue in the next decade due to job growth projections, declining workforce numbers, and a lack of training opportunities.

To address this problem, York Technical College offers a General Technology Degree with a major in  Building and Construction Trades.
