York Tech Helps Dislocated Workers Get Back
on Their Feet with Quick Jobs
January 27, 2009
ROCK HILL—With
unemployment figures in York, Chester and Lancaster
counties at record highs, many people in the region
are looking for training that can get them back to
work as soon as possible.
As of December, the Chester County unemployment rate
was at 17.3 percent. Lancaster County
is now at 13.9 percent and York County is facing 9.9
percent unemployment. With numbers like that, it's
not surprising that York Technical College has seen
a 25 percent enrollment increase in just a few
years.
Many of those new students are dislocated workers
and many of them have enrolled in York Tech's
Quick Jobs training
programs. Quick Jobs makes
it possible for students to complete their training
in 12 months or less in a variety of careers,
including health care, automotive repair, child
care, truck driving and welding.
Students who are unemployed, underemployed or older
youth 17-21 may be eligible to receive financial
assistance through the Workforce Investment Act
(WIA).
