York Tech’s Ward Wins National Poster Competition
ROCK HILL—York Technical College Digital Design Instructor Steve Ward was recently named the winner of the Democratic National Convention poster
design competition. Ward’s design becomes the official poster for the convention, to be held in Charlotte later this year.
Ward said his design, which he calls "Urban Unity,"
combines his love of Charlotte—the
poster features the city’s skyline—with images of clasping hands to show the importance of people coming together for a common cause.
The convention committee put out a call to artists and designers last year to create a poster to be selected as the convention’s official poster. The response was overwhelming, with nearly 400 designs submitted and more than 26,000 votes cast.
From those votes, Ward's powerful design was selected.

Ward, who lives in Charlotte, has been teaching Digital Design at York Technical College since
the fall of 2008.
In its few short years of existence, York Technical College’s
Digital Design program has developed into one of the region’s best in large part thanks to quality instructors like Ward,
