York Tech's Building Construction Trades program, which is credentialed
by the Home Builders Institute, the workforce development arm of the
National Association of Home Builders, is a comprehensive program that
combines academic instruction and practical, hands-on training. Students
receive instruction in safety, estimating building costs, carpentry, residential and commercial wiring, residential and
commercial plumbing, HVAC, print reading, and building
codes.
The building industry faces a shortage of 65,000
to 80,000 skilled craft workers each year. This shortage is expected to
continue in the next decade due to job growth projections, declining
workforce numbers and a lack of training opportunities.
York Tech offers an associate
degree in Occupational Technology with a specialization in Building and
Construction Trades, a diploma in Air Conditioning/Refrigeration
Mechanics, and seven certificates: HVAC Installer, HVAC Service
Technician, HVAC Systems Design, Building Construction Management,
Residential/Commercial Carpentry, Residential/Commercial Plumbing, and
Residential/Commercial Wiring.
