SCTEA Recognizes York Tech Faculty, Staff and Students

MYRTLE BEACH—At the annual South Carolina Technical Education Association (SCTEA) conference last month, a number of York Technical College faculty, staff, and students were given special recognition. Those receiving Educator of the Year Awards from York Tech were Lori Ochsner (Administrator/Manager category), Laura Sturgis (Teaching), and Debbie Williams (Staff). Each recipient received a plaque and a $100 check.

In addition, York Tech’s chapter of the Phi Beta Lambda student organization won third place in the SCTEA Student Community Service Project. The winning project, titled Learning to Rebuild for Success, focused on providing workshops to help participants improve their employability skills. Participants learned how to search for jobs, fill out applications, create a winning resume, dress appropriately, present oneself in a positive manner, and to exhibit one’s potential value to the company during an interview.

At the same conference, the SCTEA Executive Board elected three officers from York Technical College: Warren Cook (President), Ginger Dewey (Treasurer), and Vicki Stewart (Secretary). Teresa Smith will serve as the York Tech representative and Hazel Adams will serve as its retirees representative.
