Child Development Center Joins In On National Celebration

WOYCROCK HILL, SC  York Technical College’s Child Development Center is dedicating the week of April 7-11 to celebrating the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s “Week of the Young Child.”

The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

The week will consist of activities ranging from soccer clinics and musical performances, to readings from York Tech administrators as well as the First Lady of Rock Hill, Sylvia Echols. Amongst other entertainment, children and their families will get to enjoy a fun family picnic to wrap up the celebration.

Although the Child Development Center is hosting this celebratory week, the Center has gained a tremendous amount of support from the entire college, the community, parents and family members. There are approximately 20 nursing students and 75 early childhood development students volunteering during the week. In addition, parent, York Tech staff and Early Childhood Development staff are all giving their time to make this week possible.

About The Week of the Young Child
The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association, with nearly 80,000 members and a network of over 300 local, state, and regional Affiliates.

NAEYC first established the Week of the Young Child™ in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life. The Week of the Young Child™ is a time to plan how we—as citizens of a community, of a state, and of a nation—will better meet the needs of all young children and their families.
