ROCK HILL—On Friday, June 1, York Technical College will host a
conference for educators on critical thinking. The event, part of the
Learning to Learn (L-TooLSM)
Conference Series, will introduce participants to the college's
innovative Critical Thinking Model and provide them with
learner-centered strategies to help students develop all-important
critical thinking skills.
The day-long
conference will include panel discussions from both the faculty and
student services perspectives as well as a discussion with Dr. Peter Facione, an internationally-known expert in critical thinking who will
join the conference electronically.

Participants will receive a binder of conference
materials that includes reusable learning objects, the York Technical
College Critical Thinking Model, and learner-centered strategies. The
conference fee is $50 per participant, which includes lunch. The
conference has been approved for .6 CEUs.
L-TooL is a learning paradigm that focuses on the
development of lifelong learning skills. This quality initiative
strengthens students' capacity to learn while in college and throughout
life by integrating learning-to-learn competencies across the
curriculum. L-TooL is focused on six key competencies: critical
thinking, personal responsibility, computation, information literacy,
communication, and self-assessment.
