EN Announces New Opportunities for Young Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses

May 1, 2009

ROCK HILL—York Technical College's Entrepreneur Network (EN) is looking for middle school and high school students who have an entrepreneurial spirit. The EN and the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Council are collaborating to host a Young Entrepreneur Contest. High school students must have already started their businesses in order to compete. Middle school students can compete if they have a business concept they can put in writing. Prize money is available in both categories. Deadline for entry is May 13 (postmarked by May 8, if mailed). See http://www.yorktech.com/en for details. The top 10 contestants in each category will be invited to conduct a short presentation on May 19.

May 19 is also the date the Entrepreneur Network and the Small Business Council will host a Small Business Expo from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Baxter Hood Center. Small business owners will be there to show off what they have to offer customers in York, Chester, and Lancaster counties.

In addition to the business exhibits, a myriad of free seminars will be offered to anyone who is interested. Seminars include:

  • Facebook 101—for those who want to know what Facebook is and how it is used

  • 1-2-3’s of Starting a Small Business—for those who might want to know how to get started

  • Estate Planning—for anyone who wants to hear about how to get started.

  • Computer Security—a brief overview for the everyday user
