English 155 Students to Demonstrate How They Are Pursuing Their Purpose
May 3, 2011
HILL—On Thursday, May 5, two York Technical College
English 155 classes will showcase their professional goals and workplace skills at
an event called Pursuing our Purpose: A Business Communications Fair. The event,
sponsored by York Tech’s Department of English/Foreign Language, will be held from
8:15 a.m. until 9 a.m. in the Baxter Hood Center’s Kimbrell Hall.
Ms. Hutchison’s and Ms. Perry’s students will set up stations to display "vision boards"—a concept made
famous by Oprah Winfrey—they’ve created to represent their professional goals and the skills they’ve gained
at York Tech. English 155 students from a variety of disciplines and majors, including Industrial/Welding,
Administrative Office Technology, Business and College Transfer programs will participate.
"We are proud to sponsor Pursuing our Purpose," said Tracy Hudson, department chair for English/Foreign
Languages at York Tech. "The fair will help students develop their workplace skills and also understand
the high expectations of today’s workplace. Events like this foster student engagement, which is one of
our primary goals at York Technical College. We hope the fair will be the first of many such events we can offer to help
our students succeed both at York Tech and in the future."
Those attending the event will be encouraged to visit each student station and ask questions. Attendees
will also be asked to rate their top three student stations on ballots that will be used by the instructors
to award first, second, and third places.
