York Tech's Boone Recognized at Phi Theta Kappa
International Convention
ROCK HILLYork Technical College
nursing student Jamie Boone was recognized at the Phi Theta Kappa Honor
Society International Convention in Dallas last month as one of 30
Distinguished Members for 2009. The
recognition was based on Boone's significant contribution to York Tech's
chapter (Alpha Alpha Iota) in 2008.
Boone
contributed her enthusiasm, artistic talents and creativityand
encouraged the participation of othersto
a number of projects during the year, including the Wall of Hope for the
Relay for Life, the college's Junior Scholar event, the Better World
Books project, the Adopt-a-Highway project, and fundraising efforts to
benefit a local women's shelter.
In being nominated for the honor, Boone was described as someone who
always follows through with her commitments. She is serving as the
chapter's president for 2009.
Phi Theta Kappa, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., is the honor society for
two-year colleges and is the largest honor society in American higher
education with 1,250 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the
United States, Canada, Germany, and other countries around the world.
More than two million students have been inducted since its founding in
1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually.
