York Tech's Boone Recognized at Phi Theta Kappa International Convention

ROCK HILL—York Technical College nursing student Jamie Boone was recognized at the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society International Convention in Dallas last month as one of 30 Distinguished Members for 2009. The recognition was based on Boone's significant contribution to York Tech's chapter (Alpha Alpha Iota) in 2008.

Boone contributed her enthusiasm, artistic talents and creativity—and encouraged the participation of others—to a number of projects during the year, including the Wall of Hope for the Relay for Life, the college's Junior Scholar event, the Better World Books project, the Adopt-a-Highway project, and fundraising efforts to benefit a local women's shelter.

In being nominated for the honor, Boone was described as someone who always follows through with her commitments. She is serving as the chapter's president for 2009.

Phi Theta Kappa, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., is the honor society for two-year colleges and is the largest honor society in American higher education with 1,250 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, Canada, Germany, and other countries around the world. More than two million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually.
