ROCK HILL—The
York Technical College Foundation celebrated its 25th anniversary on
Tuesday night at the Baxter Hood Center. The celebration included exhibits of Foundation projects as well as a presentation of its
history and a recognition of its partners. More than
260 supporters, Foundation
board members and guests were in attendance.
Over the past 25 years, the York
Technical College Foundation has raised more than $25 million in cash as
well as donations of goods and services from industry partners and other
friends of the college. The result has been world-class facilities for
the college and scholarships for hundreds of its students through the
more than 50 endowed scholarships it supports. Building projects
supported by the Foundation have included the Child Development Center,
the Anne Springs Close Library, the Baxter Hood Center, the Institute
for Manufacturing Productivity and, most recently, the college's new
Science & Technology Building. The Foundation has also been vital to the
development of the new Chester Center, now under construction.
"The York Technical College
Foundation has been vital to the success of the college and its
students," said York Tech President Dr. Greg Rutherford. "Its efforts
over the past 25 years have made college affordable for hundreds of our
students through scholarships, but beyond that, the Foundation has
improved the learning experience of all our students."
The York Technical College
Foundation, incorporated in 1983, is a not-for-profit organization that
is fiscally and organizationally separate from the college. It's purpose
is to receive private gifts, bequests, and donations, and to wisely
manage those resources in support of the mission of the college. The
Foundation's board currently has 28 members, community leaders from the
college's service area.
