 Kinard Elementary Explores York Tech

ROCK HILL, SC  The entire fifth grade class from Kinard Elementary made a visit to York Technical College today as a part of the grade's Exploration Week, in efforts to expose the students to the two-year college experience.

This is the first year Kinard has done a trip like this. Kinard Guidance Counselor Ykwanda Coakley coordinated this trip in order to provide students with a unique learning experience.

“We just wanted to do something different. We wanted to use the resources around us to expose the kids to both the two-year and four-year college experience.... This is a wonderful opportunity for them,” Coakley said.

As the 53 curious elementary students filled the halls of York Tech, they did not hesitate to ask questions. From inquiries about what goes on in the criminal justice department, to the inner workings of the college’s manufacturing robots, they wasted no time raising their hands. When fifth grader Madison Adams was asked about her favorite part of the visit she said, “It was awesome to be able to watch the robots put the parts together.”
