York Tech Nursing Students Earn Highest Passing Rates in the State
ROCK HILL, SC — Nursing
Students at York Technical College earned the highest passing
percentage in the state of South Carolina for the National Council of
State Boards of Nursing licensing examination for registered nurses
With the cumulative state passing rate average at
86.85 percent, and national average at 83.04 percent, York Tech’s
nursing students exceeded both averages with a 97.06 pass percentage.
These numbers can only testify to the quality of the program.
According to Nursing Department Chair Sharlene Plyler, there has been
a 100 percent job placement rate for students who’ve graduated from
the program in the past three years.
“We are very proud
of our associate degree nursing graduates. Their performance on the
National Licensure Exam to become a registered nurse validates that
our nursing program sets high standards. Our graduates enter practice
with confidence and have no problems finding a job,” Plyler said.
The Associate Degree Nursing Program is a
cooperative program between York Technical College and the University
of South Carolina Lancaster and is approved by the South Carolina
Board of Nursing. The program provides a rigorous curriculum to
students, which prepares them for the practice of registered nursing
by offering hands-on, real world training and education.
Registration is currently open to students
interested in the program. Although the program only admits students
once per year, Plyler encourages students to apply now. This year, the
program, which usually has a 1-2 year wait list, has several spots
available for the fall.
