June 12, 2007

CHESTERYork Technical College with the generous support of the Chester Healthcare Foundation has launched a new Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course in Chester. The Basic EMT course, being taught at the 911 Building, will continue until October 8.

All 9 students enrolled in the course are Chester County residents and have qualified for scholarships from the Chester Healthcare Foundation, which will fully cover their tuition. Students in the course represent the Chester County Rescue Squad, the City of Chester Fire Department, the North Chester Fire Department and the West Chester Fire Department.

The Basic EMT course trains participants in the medical knowledge necessary to provide care to the ill and injured at the scene and in route to the medical facility. Training includes instruction in CPR, patient assessment, the use of defibrillators and in many more critical skills.

Chester Healthcare Foundation scholarships are also available for qualified students from Chester County for the 84-Hour Nursing Assistant course, which will be held in Chester from July 9 through July 31.
