York Tech Holds Practical Nursing Recognition Ceremony

August 10, 2007

ROCK HILL—York Technical College held its annual Practical Nurse (PN) Program recognition ceremony on Thursday, August 9, at the Baxter Hood Center. The ceremony also included the presentation of awards to the class of 2007. Paula Wright, RN, Director of Education for Chester Regional Medical Center, delivered the commencement address.

York Tech's PN Program, approved by the Board of Nursing for South Carolina, prepares students for the practice of nursing across the lifespan. After graduation, students can apply to sit for the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurses. Those passing the exam become licensed practical nurses.

The PN graduates can also continue directly into a higher degree program, including York Tech's own 2-year associate's degree nursing program, in preparation for the Registered Nurse (RN) licensing exam.

York Tech offers Practical Nursing in both Chester and Lancaster through partnerships with the Chester Career Center and the Lancaster Vocational Center. Participates in the pinning ceremony are graduates from both sites. They included:
