Winthrop University and York Technical College Welcomed Bridge Program Students at Sept. 13 Reception

ROCK HILLWinthrop University and York Technical College welcomed students into its collaborative bridge program during a Sept. 13 reception.

The reception was held at Joynes Hall on the Winthrop campus.

To date, more than 25 students have signed up for the Winthrop Bridge Program, an academic transfer program that allows freshmen to attend York Technical College for two years to earn an associate’s degree or university studies certificate before transferring to Winthrop to complete a four-year degree.

The program, announced this summer, creates a path to degree completion by providing comprehensive and coordinated student support services at both campuses.

University officials promote the Bridge Program to help prepare students for the next phase of their education.

“The Bridge Program is an excellent way to motivate students to complete high school and prepare for success at a four-year college. Our partnering initiatives, such as these, help serve the South Carolina attainment agenda in growing the number of residents who complete at least a bachelor’s degree,” said Winthrop President Jayne Marie Comstock.

York Technical College President Greg Rutherford added: "York Tech and Winthrop both share a mission of ensuring our students’ success and contributing to the economic development of our region. This partnership further solidifies our progress and opens new gateways for students to compete and thrive in today's knowledge-driven economy."

Students who participate in the Winthrop Bridge Program have access to:
* Personal admission counselors and dedicated academic advisors
* Peer mentors through the Resource Center for Adult Services in Winthrop’s University College
* Early registration at Winthrop
* Sports events and cultural events, such as theatre or music performances on Winthrop’s campus
* Winthrop facilities, such as the Dacus Library, West Center for wellness activities, Academic Success Center for tutoring and the Writing Center
