Weaver-Griggs Appointed to Statewide Board

COLUMBIA—Linda Weaver-Griggs, York Technical College's Associate Dean for Public Services, has been appointed to the South Carolina School Improvement Council Board of Trustees. The board provides guidance and support to the staff of the S.C. School Improvement Council office, which is located in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina.

Weaver-Griggs is a seasoned school and community volunteer who has served on the Independence Elementary School Improvement Council in the Rock Hill school district and has also been an active PTO member. She is a former classroom teacher who has taught kindergarten through middle school.

"Linda Weaver-Griggs has demonstrated strong support for public education through her many activities in Rock Hill as a parent and community activist and also in her professional life," said South Carolina School Improvement Council Board of Trustees Chair Nell W. Stewart. "She is a welcome asset to this board."

Weaver-Griggs manages the Early Childhood Development and Criminal Justice Technology programs at York Technical College. The Early Childhood Development Department offers a number of academic programs of study: associate degree in Public Service, major in Early Care and Education, diploma in Early Childhood Development, certificate in Early Childhood Development, certificate in Child Care Management, certificate in Infant and Toddler Development, and an advanced certificate in Early Childhood Special Education. The Criminal Justice Technology Department offers a certificate in Law Enforcement and is currently in the process of proposing the addition of an associate degree in Public Service, major in Criminal Justice Technology.

Weaver-Griggs is a S.C. certified early childhood educator, holds certification as an early childhood generalist from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and a diploma in Montessori early childhood education from MEPI, Inc.
