York Tech's Saylor Wins Excellence in Teaching Award from S.C. League for Nursing

ROCK HILL—York Technical College Nursing Instructor Grace Saylor was recently named the winner of the South Carolina League for Nursing's Excellence in Teaching Award.

The award recognizes Saylor's work in piloting a project that has put course content, in the form of PowerPoint presentations complete with narration by the instructor, onto CDs. The CDs are given to students at the beginning of the courses along with course syllabi to assist in study, review, and test preparation. The project was launched during the Fall 2004 semester, now all nursing courses at York Tech are taught using the innovation. The result has been that students come to class better prepared and are ready to practice the concepts instead of just hearing about them for the first time. A strong increase in course retention rates was also measured.

Saylor will be recognized at the League's annual awards banquet in Columbia next month.
