York Technical College Presidential Finalists Announced

ROCK HILL—The York Technical College Area Commission announced Wednesday the names of three finalists for the presidency of York Technical College. The finalists were recommended by a presidential search committee made up of the chairman of the State Board for Technical & Comprehensive Education, the chairman of the York Technical College Area Commission and the president of another South Carolina technical college.

The three finalists are:

·        Dr. Ron Bartley, vice president for academic affairs at West Virginia State Community and Technical College in Institute, West Virginia

·        Dr. T. Eston “Bud” Marchant, vice president for educational affairs at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, South Carolina

·        Dr. Greg Rutherford, interim vice president for administration/vice president  for economic and workforce development at Haywood Community College in Clyde, North Carolina

“We were very fortunate to have a qualified pool of candidates from which to select,” said Tony Vaughan, chairman of the York Technical College Area Commission. “The next step is for the full Commission to interview each of the finalists and to provide an opportunity for the finalists to meet with the college’s Executive Committee as well as several faculty and staff members.” The interviews with the York Technical College Area Commission are scheduled to take place on November 9-10 in executive session. 

Chairman Vaughan indicated that he expects the selection process will be completed by the end of this month.  The final appointment of the president by the Area Commission is subject to the approval of the Agency Head Salary Commission, State Budget and Control Board, and applicable state laws, provisions, policies and regulations.

Current President Dr. Dennis F. Merrell announced earlier his plans to retire by December 31, 2006. Merrell has served as York Technical College’s President for the past 17 years.
