York Technical College to Host Dedication Event for 3D Systems University November 14, 2007 ROCK HILL—York Technical College will host a dedication event for 3D Systems University on Wednesday, November 14, at the facility in Waterford Industrial Park in Rock Hill. The invitation-only event, which begins at 10 a.m., will include remarks from local and state leaders as well as a demonstration of the world-class digital manufacturing technologies available at the facility.
Funds to construct the 17,000-square-foot training facility were provided by York County, the City of Rock Hill and by York Technical College. "The City of Rock Hill's partnership with York Tech, which helped make 3D Systems University a reality, is an investment in our city's future," said Mayor Pro Tem Kathy Pender. In addition to offering world class training, 3D Systems University also serves as a showcase for digital manufacturing technologies and a place to demonstrate how these technologies are changing the world of product design, development and manufacturing in almost every industry, from health care to aerospace.
"The partnership with a cutting edge company like 3D Systems allows us to leverage emerging manufacturing technologies in order to support better skilled technicians and technology transfer to regional companies," said Dr. Greg Rutherford, president of York Technical College. "The technical innovations on display at 3D Systems University are vital to our region’s long-term competitiveness in the global economy, and they fuel sustainable economic expansion by creating high-tech jobs and improving our standard of living." In addition to Pender, Reichental and Rutherford, those making remarks at the event will include David Logdon of the South Carolina Department of Commerce; the Honorable Buddy Motz, chairman of the York County Council, and Tony Vaughan, chairman of the York Technical College Area Commission. 3D Systems is a leading provider of Rapid 3-D Modeling, Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing solutions.
