York Technical College Names Dr. Greg Rutherford President November 30, 2006 ROCK HILL—The York Technical College Area Commission announced today the appointment of Dr. Greg Rutherford as president of York Technical College. Dr. Rutherford is currently serving as vice president for economic and workforce development at Haywood Community College in Clyde, North Carolina.
Dr. Rutherford succeeds York Technical College President Dr. Dennis Merrell, who is retiring. “We look forward with great anticipation to Dr. Rutherford's presidency, and at the same time thank Dr. Merrell for his dedication and service to the college,” said Vaughan. Dr. Merrell will officially retire on December 31, 2006, but has agreed to help during the transition period. Dr. Merrell has served as York Technical College’s president for the past 17 years. Dr. Rutherford was selected by the York Technical College Area Commission from a group of three finalists recommended by a presidential search committee. Dr. Rutherford earned his doctorate in Education Administration with a major in Community College Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin, an MBA from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, a BS in Management from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, and an associate degree in Business Administration from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in Asheville, North Carolina.
