Motorcycle Permit before the first day of class.


The New Rider Course



York Technical College has partnered with Cox's Harley Davidson to provide Rider's Edge®, a proven blend of classroom instruction and range riding, the Rider's Edge® New Rider Course delivers the basics of motorcycle operation in Harley-Davidson style. You'll learn from devoted instructors certified by both the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and Harley-Davidson to create a relaxed, supportive environment that fosters camaraderie and confidence. 

After passing written and riding skills evaluations, you'll receive an MSF Rider Course Completion Card that could qualify you for discounts on insurance. Completion of this course will also qualify you to take the South Carolina skills test, all at our facility and on a bike you are familiar with. Upon completion, you will receive a South Carolina Waiver form to take with you to the SCDMV to complete your motorcycle endorsement and begin a journey that lasts a lifetime.
The DMV may require you to take the riding portion based on a random selection.

Requirements

  • Ability to ride a bicycle
  • A valid automobile driver's license or learner's permit
  • A motorcycle permit is required prior to beginning class
  • Jeans, sturdy over-the-ankle boots or shoes, full-fingered motorcycle gloves, a heavy long-sleeved shirt or jacket and protective eyewear
  • A helmet that meets DOT specifications

 
Motorcycles Provided for Students During the Class

You'll be riding the 492cc Buell® Blast®, a light easy to handle sport bike with a rider-friendly design that will have you feeling in control.

Costs

$325 per person, which includes the use of a Buell® Blast®

Schedule & Registration


The course is held over 4 days, from Friday to Monday. The second and fourth weekend of every month. All sessions are mandatory, so make sure the course fits into your schedule.

You must register through Campus Cruiser first, so have your credit card handy. After registering through Campus Cruiser, please fill out this form.


Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are motorcycles provided?

A: Yes, Buell® Blast® motorcycles are provided for the students' use.

Q: Can I use my own motorcycle?

A: No. Because of liability issues, students may not bring their own motorcycles.

Q: Will I need to bring a helmet?

A: Yes. Students will need to bring a DOT approved helmet to the course.

Q: Are there age restrictions for this course?

A: No. The only requirement is that you must have had your driver's icense for 6 months.

Q: What are the eligibility requirements for this course?

A: Students must be eligible to receive a Motorcycle Driver's License and be able to ride a bicycle.

Q: Will I be exempt from the riding test at the DMV?

A:
Students wishing to be part of the waiver program must pass both the written and riding skills evaluation. After passing both portions, you'll receive an DMV Waiver card. The DMV may require you to take the riding portion based on a random selection.
