 Defensive Driving

Please read this important information before registering for this class.

This course meets defensive driving requirements established by the National Safety Council and the SC Department of Highways & Public Transportation. This course can be taken for four point credit only once every three years. Preregistration is required to reserve a space in this class. Classes are available two evenings from 6pm - 10pm or Saturday 8:30am - 5:30pm. Textbook is included. Course fee: $80.

HUNTER SAFETY COURSES
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

York Technical College in partnership with the South Carolina Department of National Resources offer a hunting safety education course. This course provides students an opportunity to spend time with a hunting expert and learn how to safely handle a firearm. Please bring a #2 pencil and social security card with you to class. Anyone 15 yrs. or under must have a parent present in the class. Only the student must be charged tuition unless the parent wants a license.

Courses are offered at the York Technical College Rock Hill and Chester Campuses.

BOATER SAFETY COURSES
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

York Technical College in partnership with the South Carolina Department of National Resources offer a boater safety education course. This course provides students an opportunity to spend time with a DNR boating expert and learn how the tricks to handling a boat safely. This course will also allow you to comply with the boating law and may potentially make you eligible for a discount on your boat or Personal Water Craft (jet ski) insurance.

Please bring a #2 pencil and social security card with you to class. Anyone 15 yrs. or under must have a parent present in the class. Only the student must be charged tuition unless the parent wants a license.

**Please note that boaters under 16 years of age are required by law to pass an approved boater education course before operating, without supervision, a personal watercraft (jet ski) or a boat powered by 15 hp motor or more.

GUN SAFETY COURSES

 

REFUSE TO BE A VICTIM®

Refuse To Be A Victim® courses
replace fear and uncertainty with awareness and knowledge to help prevent criminal from making you a victim. Seminar topics include home, automobile, phone, technological, travel and personal security. Seminar participants are presented with a variety of proven crime prevention and personal safety strategies and devices they may integrate into their daily lives.  You will get the tools you need to develop your own personal safety strategy, including information and practical demonstrations on: Self-Defense Tools and Training Opportunities, Home and Car Security, Cell Phone Mistakes for Professionals and College Students, Mental skills to Overcome as a Survivor not a Victim!

The course is three to four hours long with a focused question and answer period to our Nationally Certified Instructors.  

The program has been endorsed by members of the law enforcement community nationwide, such as Sheriff Howard Sellers of Aiken County, South Carolina who said, "It encourages people to think through risky situations...and it inspires confidence in that they know how to enter a situation, assess the risks and have tools at their disposal to deal with it properly."

There are no prerequisites for taking this course, and the material is accessible to appropriately supervised mature teenagers. You are not required to own a firearm to attend this course.

The following gun safety classes are held at 649 Celriver Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 with the range training to be held at Sportsman, Inc. unless notified otherwise.  Directions below:


NRA BASIC PISTOL

Teaches safe handling of a handgun. 
If you wish to bring your own handgun, please contact DES Training for the requirements and legal transport restrictions of your handgun. DES Training will provide eye and hearing protection for all students involved in the course.

South Carolina Concealed Weapon Permit 

This South Carolina approved permit course is for all South Carolina citizens who want or need to carry a concealed handgun for their personal or family’s safety. In this course, you will learn parts and operation of the handgun, proper and safe storage of a handgun, cleaning of both pistols and revolvers, and techniques for the improving the skills needed for accurate shot placement. Also there will be instructions on the laws and the obligations of the concealed weapon permit carrier. Upon completion of this course you may apply to the State of South Carolina for a concealed weapon permit. Note:  A fee of $50 must be sent along with your permit application to the State of South Carolina. You must be 21 years of age to enroll in this course. The SC Concealed Weapons Permit course will be a minimum of eight hours as required by SLED. Included in the cost of the course are targets, fingerprint cards, photos and notary services that are required for permit application. You need to bring: A handgun with matching holster and belt. You will need at least 50 rounds of round nosed ammunition along with hearing and eye protection. A valid and correct South Carolina Drivers License or SC State ID card must be presented during class.

North Carolina Concealed Weapon Permit 

The North Carolina Concealed Carry Handgun Permit course is designed for a law abiding citizen, who wish or need to carry a concealed handgun for their personal or family’s safety. In this course, you will gain the required knowledge of handgun safety, along with learning about responsible carry and how to gain the needed proficiency skills with a firearm. Also there will be instructions on the laws and the obligations of the concealed handgun carrier. Upon completion of this course you may apply to the State of North Carolina for a Concealed Carry Handgun Permit at your county Sheriff’s office. You must be 21 years of age to enroll in this course. Included in the cost of the course are targets, state documents, and other course materials required when applying for permit. You need to bring: A handgun with matching holster and belt. You will need at least 50 rounds of round nosed ammunition along with hearing and eye protection. A valid and correct NC Drivers License or NC State ID card must be presented during class.
