Students may receive credit for work completed prior to entering the college. The policies governing the award of such credit appear in the York Technical College 2005-2006 Catalog and Handbook, pages 17-21 - Admission with Advanced Standing, Articulation Agreements, Exemption Exams, Technical Advanced Placement, Transfer of Military Credit, and completion of Advanced Placement Testing (AP) and College Level Examination Testing (CLEP).  These are the avenues available for students to establish advanced placement credit; however, the admission requirements are the same for all students entering a specific program.

Students may also be accepted into the criminal justice technology program on the basis of transfer credit. For transfer credit evaluation, transfer applicants must submit official transcripts from previous colleges attended which show evidence of satisfactory completion of equivalent credit course work for their specific program.

Additionally, a high school diploma or equivalent is required for admission into the criminal justice technology program since it is a requirement for employment with prospective law enforcement agencies.
