A great way to get a head start on your college education.
EXCELS is an acronym for EXcellence through College Enrollment for LearnerS. The purpose of EXCELS is to provide opportunities for qualified high school juniors and seniors to complete college-level courses while still enrolled in high school.
Students may earn dual credit (high shool and college credit) when courses include both college and high school requirements.
Who can enroll?
Qualified juniors and seniors may enroll.
Interested students should work with their guidance counselors to identify prerequisite skills needed for specific courses.
What courses are included?
Technical and general education courses at York Technical College are included in the EXCELS program.
Typically, advanced high school courses and entry-level college courses can be coordinated and offered as EXCELS courses.
What kind of credit is earned?
Students will earn college credit and will receive a college transcript. Grades earned on EXCELS courses will remain on the college transcript after high school graduation and become a part of the student's permanent college record.
Will credit transfer?
EXCELS courses apply toward specific programs at York Technical College and other technical colleges in South Carolina. Many courses will transfer to other two-year and four-year public institutions in South Carolina according to the "Statewide Articulation Agreement: Technical College Courses Transferable to Public Institutions." York Technical College and school districts work cooperatively to minimize direct costs to students.
