Department Manager:

Mohammad Hossain 981 - 7156 mhossain@yorktech.com

Mr. Hossain just completed his fourth year of teaching at York Technical College.  Before his arrival at York Tech he spent over fifteen years in the industry at various engineering capacities.  His engineering career started as a Mechanical Tool Design Engineer at Posi-Seal International, a subsidiary of Monsanto Chemicals, in Connecticut.

Mr. Hossain teaches mechanical engineering technology classes.  With his broad in-depth subject knowledge, engineering experience and a sense of humor, he can turn every dry engineering classroom into a fun learning environment.  He enjoys teaching because he believes in the old Greek philosophy, docindo dicimas, which means ‘we learn by teaching’. He is a life long learner whose academic qualifications include an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University, PA, and an MS in Engineering Mechanics from Penn State University.  Mr. Hossain is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Clemson University through the distance-learning program.  He is well liked and respected by his colleagues and students.   He possesses a great sense of humors and in his leisure time he enjoys jogging, story telling, singing and gardening.  Stop by his office if you are in the area and he will greet you with his great smile. Mr. Hossain lives in Rock Hill with his wife and three young daughters.

Instructors:

Susan Sherlock 981-7138  ssherlock@yorktech.com

About the Instructor

Susan Sherlock has been a fulltime faculty member at York Technical College since 1986.  As a Rock Hill/York County native she naturally looked to York Technical College following high school to further her education and obtained Associate of Applied Science degrees in Engineering Graphics Technology and Civil Engineering Technology.

After working in the civil engineering industry for several years Ms. Sherlock accepted a position as instructor at York Tech in Engineering Technology.  In 1996 she completed a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology with a major in Civil Engineering Technology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In 2006, Ms. Sherlock completed her Master of Civil Engineering from Norwich University.

Ms. Sherlock is a well liked and respected teacher.  She enjoys working directly with students in the classroom and takes pleasure in working with new students beginning a career path fresh out of high school, those changing careers as a “non-traditional” student, or those preparing to return to a career outside the home after raising a family.  She considers it exciting and rewarding to be a part of the many successes she witnesses each year.

When not busy at the College Ms. Sherlock enjoys hiking, jogging, and occasionally horseback riding.  She is also a professional hammered dulcimer player and enjoys teaching at festivals and performing nationally.  She stays very involved in her community and is acknowledged by the SC Arts Commission as a Folk Art and Traditional Artist.  She also serves on the NC Arts and Science Council Talent Bureau 2004-present, is a recipient of a Regional Artist Grant from the NC Arts and Science Council, a former member of the Charlotte Folk Society Board of Directors, and a panel member for the local and regional Collate Country Showdown talent search program.
