2001-02 IE OUTLINE - RESULTS

AIR CONDITIONING DEPARTMENT

MISSION/PURPOSE

The purpose of this department is to offer accessible, relevant and high-quality education by providing a comprehensive program of systematic, competency-based instruction in the areas of Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation.

EXPECTED RESULTS/OUTCOMES

Outcome number 1 is continued from the previous year. 1. Create a database of local and regional employers. This database will provide a tool that will give the Department Manager a mailing list and the training needs of individual employees in each company. The database will contain: · Company Name, address, phone number and e-mail address. · Point of contact · Names of employees and training needs · Contact comments

2. Begin developing the criteria for a nationally accredited HVAC/R Technician Training Program through PAHRA (Partnership for Air-Conditioning Heating Refrigeration Accreditation). The accreditation process will require 3 to 4 years for York Technical College to meet the criteria for applying for accreditation.

MEANS OF ASSESSMENT

Outcome #1: · Provide a paper printout of screens and a blank template on disk. · Site visits to a minimum of 25 employers to collect data.

Outcome #2: · At least one full-time instructor will become PAHRA certified.

USE OF ASSESSMENT RESULTS IN PLANNING

1. The database will provide the department information that can be used for:

· identifying areas of training that York Tech is not filling · e-mailing upcoming training directly to companies · employment follow-up

2. Prior to applying for accreditation, all full-time instructors in the program must have the Basic Entry Level Competency or the Service Sector Technician Certification. A Professional Development Proposal will be developed to send as least one instructor to training and certification.

REVIEW OF RESULTS

1. This is the second year of attempting to create a database of employers and their employees. A Microsoft Access Database has been developed and some data has been collected for entry. Though the concept is sound, the project is not proving workable. Employers are not committed to providing the information and to keeping it current. The workload within the Department does not permit the monitoring and constant updating of the data. Without current data, the information is not valid.

2. Rod Trump attended the ARI Instructor Workshop in Washington, DC. While at this workshop, Rod Trump tested and was issued a Certificate of Competency in Residential A/C & Heating, Commercial Refrigeration and Light Commercial A/C & Heating. Ed Moore, Sr., the night part-time instructor, has documentation on file with York Technical College as completing the NATE examinations, which meet the accreditation requirements.
