2002-03 IE OUTLINE
AIR CONDITIONING DEPARTMENT
MISSION/PURPOSE
The purpose of this department is to offer accessible, relevant and high-quality education by providing a comprehensive program of systematic, competency-based instruction in the areas of Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation.
EXPECTED RESULTS/OUTCOMES
1. Continue to develop the criteria for a nationally accredited HVAC/R Technician Training Program through PAHRA (Partnership for Air-Conditioning Heating Refrigeration Accreditation). This is year two in the accreditation process that will prepare the ACR Department to apply to the accreditation site visit. (Goal #1, Strategy #1)
· Prior to applying for an accreditation site visit, all full-time instructors in the program must have the ICE Basic Entry Level Competency Instructor certification and the NATE Service Sector Technician Certification. A Professional Development Proposal has been submitted to send both full time instructors to training and certification.
· All courses will be reviewed to ensure the required PAHRA competencies are being taught in the ACR program.
MEANS OF ASSESSMENT
1. All ACR instructors will obtain ICE Instructor certification or NATE certification in the specialty area taught during this period. Completion certificates will be maintained in each instructor's personnel file.
2. Syllabi will be reviewed/written and approved to include the competency objectives required in the PAHRA program. Approved syllabi will be available in Shared Files.
Statement of Impact
1. One full-time instructor received the ICE Instructor certification and the other full-time received the NATE certification. The part-time night instructor already had NATE certification. Certificates are on file in each instructor's personnel file.
2. A process sponsored by the South Carolina Association of Heating, Air Conditioning Contractors (SCAHACC) has been ongoing for the passed year whereby instructors from each of the state's Technical Colleges meet to align courses in the CAC with PAHRA competencies. Once this process is complete, York Technical College's ACR courses will be reviewed and aligned.
