AUTOMOTIVE DEPARTMENT
MISSION/PURPOSE
The purpose of this department is to offer accessible, relevant, and high quality education by providing a comprehensive program of systematic, competency based instruction in the area of Automotive Technology.
EXPECTED RESULTS/OUTCOMES
Continue updating the course syllabi to NATEF standards in the remaining automotive courses prior to the spring 2003 semester: Aut 105, Aut 112, Aut 115, Aut 121, Aut 131, Aut 241, Aut 133, Aut 152, Aut 156, Aut 158, Aut 247, Aut 252. These courses will then be taught using the revised syllabi. It is expected that upon completion of the revised automotive course syllabi, this program will be prepared to continue with the process of becoming a NATEF certified program. Further results of these revisions will be that students will be exposed to the latest course competencies that are nationally recognized. ( Goal II, Strategy 1 )
MEANS OF ASSESSMENT
The changes that will be made to the course syllabus will be presented to the Instructional Developer and be evaluated on their accuracy, content, and format. This evaluation will be done by the spring 2003 semester, and upon completion, these changes will be implemented into use.
STATEMENT OF IMPACT
During the 2002-2003 school year, the Automotive Department converted the remaining twelve course syllabi into a modular format that met NATEF standards. This was done to not only comply with the standards that we needed to become certified, but also update the courses to meet the current needs of our students. The Automotive Department has already begun to receive positive feed back from students that have viewed the revised syllabi on-line. The students stated that the new syllabi were easy to understand and provided a clear understanding of the courses and how they would be taught. This positive feed-back reaffirms the direction that the department is taking to gain certification through NATEF.
