Introduce a Girl to
Engineering

Overview Date: March 27, 2010 from 9am to 2:30pm
Location: York Technical College's Rock Hill Campus
Who can Attend? The first 50 young women in the 6th to 9th grades (public, private, or home schooled) and their mothers (although aunts, grandmothers, guardians, or dads are welcome) to register. (An adult must accompany each girl.) Cost: $15.00 per person
Student Activities Work Shops 8th and 9th grades: The transmission of solar and wind energy will be demonstrated as the girls build their own house and connect it to the power grid. Brown-outs and Black-outs will also be demonstrated. The girls will also build their own light houses to discover how lighthouses save lives and how electrical engineering and construction is used. The girls will be able to take home their houses. 6th and 7th grades: The girls will examine transportation engineering as they race electric dragsters. Electrical Engineering will be approached through building a LED flashlight. The girls will be able to take the cars and lights home. Girls and Attending Adult: Explore the world of rocketry together as the group learns about rockets as well as build and launch their own. Each girl and her attending adult will have a rocket to take home as a souvenir.
Adult Activities
Registration Girls will need to pre-register. No registration will be accepted after Feb 26th, 2010. The girls will need to have the responsible adult, parent or guardian register at the same time.
