Work Shops

8th and 9th grades: The transmission of solar and wind energy will be demonstrated as the girls build their own house and connect it to the power grid. Brown-outs and Black-outs will also be demonstrated.  The girls will also build their own light houses to discover how lighthouses save lives and how electrical engineering and construction is used. The girls will be able to take home their houses.

6th and 7th grades: The girls will examine  transportation engineering as they race electric dragsters. Electrical Engineering will be approached through building a LED flashlight.  The girls will be able to take the cars and lights home.

Girls and Attending Adult:  Explore the world of rocketry together as the group learns about rockets as well as build and launch their own.  Each girl and her attending adult will have a rocket to take home as a souvenir.

Adult Activities
More than 65% of high school students say they discuss their choice of career with their mother. This program provides an opportunity for interested mothers (or other responsible adult) to learn about the services provided by colleges,  about the different types of engineering and about nuclear energy.  Guest speakers will be on hand to answer questions.

Registration
Registration is first-come, first-served to the first 50 girls (6th through 9th grades) who sign up. The cost is $15.00 per person.  Twenty-five girls in each age group will be accepted.
