York Technical College is proud to introduce our New Residential/Commercial Wiring Certificate!
This new certificate has come about due to the numerous request that have been made by potential students that were seeking this type of training. The new certificate program here at York Technical College has been accepted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the Home Builders Institute as an acceptable and qualified training curriculum. The new certificate program has all of the components necessary to give the student, upon successful completion of the certificate program, the ability to receive such benefits as becoming Certified and Registered by the NAHB and the Home Builders Institute.
This program will be offered during, both, the daytime and evening hours in the 2005 Fall semester and then again in the 2006 Spring Semester.

IMT is getting a facelift!
Being that the new Science & Technology Building is now the new home of ETV, space has opened up in D Building! This space has been allocated for the Industrial Maintenance Technology Program (IMT) and the Continuing Education department as well. As a result, IMT and it's faculty will be relocating the IMT Curriculum to the newly allocated space by the latter part of this year. There will be new offices and classrooms as well.
Below are some photos of the renovations that are taking place in the IMT shop area...
...Ed Moore's New Office...
...the storage room...
...and a photo of the new classroom that is temporarily being used by the Automotive Technology Department.
We will keep you posted on the progress throughout the days and months to come!

New/Old Computers
B-12 has just received 10 New 500 MHz Pentium III computers for the lab. This is quite an upgrade from our 133 MHz Pentiums that we were running! All the computers in B-12 (14 in all) are now networked and have the same software installed as the ones in B-38 (except for the PLC software). This enables us to have more flexibility in classroom scheduling.
Here they are!

IMT & IMP supports IND
Mr. Bill Beaver and Mr. Ed Moore supported local industry (PACEdge in Chester, SC) by upgrading a paper cutting machine here on campus. The machine was dropped off by PACEdge in the Fall semester, 2004. The task at hand was to increase the product output from 50 parts per/min to 200 parts per/min! An increase of 300%! All involved rose to the challenge and met the January deadline!
Mr. Ed Moore thought it good for the students in the 2004 FA, IMT 161-002(Mechanical Power Applications) class, to calculate a solution to the problem as this was definitely a mechanical power application! The students, with Mr. Moore's supervision, calculated for a new power transmission system which included the following:
Conversion from a DC drive to an AC inverter,
increased HP on the new AC motor,
new gearbox with a higher output ratio,
and new flywheel weighting.
Thanks go out to all of the students and faculty that were involved in the project:
Mr. Bill Beaver
Mr. Ed Moore
and last but not least...

New Bot?!
Dr. Marc Tarplee (IET Division Dean) received word of a Motoman robot that could possibly be donated to York Technical College. Mr. Jason Kefover (Instructor - Industrial Electricity/Electronics) is currently working with a contact at Balzers Inc. to handle the delivery of the Motoman robot and it's peripherals to the campus. Caterpillar Inc. currently owns the robot and has asked Balzers Inc. to find someone to take the robot. Mr. Kefover reports that the robot includes the controller and a 36 position indexing/rotating table, both of which can be seen in photos below. The estimated value could possibly be in the "10's of thousands of $$$"! The robot is estimated to be approximately 10 to 15 years old. Mr. Kefover is excited about this possible donation and hopes to see it put to use in future training here at York Technical College.
Here are some photos of the robot.
Any new information about this possible donation will be posted as soon as we get it. Keep us posted on this exciting news Jason and thanks for your efforts!

Mr. Clade's Hall of Fame!
Anyone who has ever read the NEC® knows that it is not the most fun text to read. This causes very long and boring classes. To add some spice to the class and make it more competitive and enjoyable, Mr. Jeffrey "JC" Clade (Instructor - Industrial Electricity/Electronics) decided to create a "High Score Hall of Fame". This is not a new concept, if fact, it is used quite often to motivate the students in to doing the best they can in seminars around the country. JC has found that whereas every student is not enticed into the codebook with a jubilant spirit, it has, in fact, motivated the majority of students to enter into healthy debates which cause student learning! JC always starts the EEM 140 class by asking the entire class, Who's name is going to be on the plaque?" Of course you know... all hands raise, but in the end, it always comes down to one - The Best! This individual will be recognized as having the highest average in the EEM 140 class for each term that it is taught.
A prize award is also often given as a supplement to the engraving in recognition for excellence in learning. An award is also given for second place, however, there is no room on the plaque for second place!
Here is the plaque as it hangs in D-24.
Past recipients:
1998-2 Marcus Broome
1999-2 Roy Love
2000-2 Rick Mack
2002FA1 Gene Lunsford
2003FA1 Owen Matthews
2004FA1 Robert Myers
Way to go Guys!
