Welcome to the Medical Laboratory Technology Website at York Technical College. We appreciate your dropping by and hope that the information you find here will be helpful.  Medical Laboratory Technology is a field of science and medicine that offers not only a secure future in regard to income, but one that affords numerous opportunities for exciting and challenging work experiences.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Medical Laboratory Technology Program prepares students to function efficiently and safely in the clinical laboratory setting. The program consists of general education courses, specific MLT courses, and clinical rotations in a hospital laboratory. This diverse learning experience is designed to teach MLT students both the technical and theoretical aspects of the clinical laboratory in the health care setting. Upon completion of the program, graduates receive an Associate in Health Science Degree and are eligible to take either or both of two national certifying exams.

PROGRAM AFFILIATION

The program is affiliated with Piedmont Healthcare System in Rock Hill, S.C., Chester Regional Medical Center in Chester,  S.C.,  Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, S.C,  and CMC - Union in Monroe, N.C.

HOW TO ENROLL

To enroll, contact the Admissions Office at 327-8008 for more information on the Medical Laboratory Technology Program.

Admission to the Medical Laboratory Technology Program requires the student to be a high school graduate or equivalent, have a qualifying SAT score or a 2.5 GPR in the general education courses, and submit a medical examination form. Prior courses in biology and chemistry are recommended. A nonrefundable, nontransferable deposit is also required.

Average salary is $11.50 to $17.00 per hour.

York Technical College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097:  Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award Associate Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates. Additional accreditation is associated with some specific programs and is described in the program information section of this catalog. York Technical College has established and maintains agreements with area vocational schools and area senior colleges to aid the transfer of student work both to and from the College. Accreditation documents are located in the Office of the President.
