IE OUTLINE

NAME OF UNIT Machine Tool Technology

MISSION/PURPOSE

The mission of the Machine Tool Technology Department is to train students in both manual and computer assisted machining. With these skills, the graduate will then be able to obtain employment in local industry performing machining operations for the industry. To better serve this purpose, this school year we plan to perform the following activities with the goal of increasing enrollment and increasing student/graduate skills.

1. Develop a computer based tracking system for gauging and tooling that are used in the MTT Department. This will help provide better security for these items and better access for students/instructors who need to use these items.

2. Develop an online course for delivery of EGT-128.

3. Develop a better visual aid to enhance delivery and understanding of EGT-212 in the classroom.

EXPECTED RESULTS/OUTCOMES

1. Develop a system for tracking consumable tooling and portable gages that will also help maintain adequate inventory levels, provide security, and help quickly identify item location.

(Institutional Goal II, Strategy)

2. Develop computer models of parts on print in EGT-212 text book to help students visualize the parts. The strategy is to create a teaching aid to help students visualize the part print as in the book. The goal is to simplify the part prints in EGT-212 so the student can understand more about blueprint reading. As a result it will increase their ability to understand the part print and then be able to machine a part to the print specifications.

(Institutional Goal II, Strategy 1)

MEANS OF ASSESSMENT

1. The Gauge and Consumable Tooling Tracking System will be reviewed at the end of the school year to verify that expected results/outcomes have been achieved.

2. The computer models or hard copies will be available for review by IE Committee and IET Division personnel. A student evaluation will be created to assess the effectiveness of the simplified prints.
