Program Overview

 

The program in Teleproduction Technology is designed for persons interested in learning cutting-edge digital video production techniques for positions in commercial, public and cable broadcasting, instructional television, film production,  industrial, medical, and governmental video production and the like. Students will spend three consecutive semesters in a curriculum designed for mostly "hands-on" learning.

The program includes courses in digital (non-linear) editing, on-location and studio productions, digital photography, broadcasting, sound production, on-location and field lighting, and other related classes. Two semesters of work experience are provided during externship at York Tech and SCETV, which is located on the York Technical College’s campus. The student who graduates earns a diploma in Teleproduction Technology and leaves with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the rapidly expanding field of television and video productions.

 

Two programs are offered:  a Diploma program, and a General Technology Degree program .

 

Teleproduction Technology Program and Learning Outcomes

  To receive a State Diploma in Teleproduction Technology  graduates must have:

 

1.      An appropriate mastery of the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of their disciplines.

In addition to the written exams, which are used as an assessment tool in all courses, the Teleproduction students are presented with hands-on studio, field and lab activities as well as capstone projects. These projects require the student to utilize the knowledge gained as well as the various techniques and skills learned throughout the program to solve problems as they relate to the television and video production environments.

 

 

2.      An ability to apply current knowledge and adapt to emerging applications of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to identify, analyze, and solve technical problems.

Students are required to apply their knowledge, techniques, and skills learned not only from their technical core courses, but also from the General Education courses (HSS-205, MAT-155, RTV-205) as well in the design, production, testing, and troubleshooting of specified projects.

 

3.      An ability to function effectively in teams.

The Teleproduction students work as a team on almost every project in the studio as well as on-location. The following courses emphasize team work:

RTV-103, RTV-105, RTV-202, RTV-203, RTV-204

 

 

4.      An ability to communicate effectively.

The Teleproduction students are required to communicate effectively with their fellow classmates as well as their supervisors during summer internship. Courses that specifically develop communications skills are:

 ENG-155, RTV-107, RTV-204.
