WebCT Instructions

 

Listed below are the instructions on how to access your course whether it is enhanced or fully online. 

  • Please note: You will not be able to log into your course until the first day of class. If you attempt to log into your course before the first day of class, you may see the error “User name or password is incorrect.” 

 

  • If you are using AOL, Prodigy, or other modified browsers, some WebCT features may not work.  We suggest that you first access the Internet in your normal manner, then minimize your browser and use the latest version of Internet Explorer or Netscape.

 

 

 

 

1. Connect to the Internet

 

 

 

 

 

2.  Log into your course

  • Click on the WebCT logo.

 

 

  • You are on the WebCT login page.  You will need to enter your username and password in order to access your course.  Your username is configured by the following manner: 

 

      {First initial of your first name}{your last name}{the last four digits of your York Tech Student ID

       number}. 

      

      There are no spaces, periods, commas, or hyphens in your username.

 

       For example Jane Doe has a student number of 01234567.  Her WebCT username is jdoe4567.

 

  •  Please be aware that your name must be in lowercase.

 

 

 

  • If you don’t know your York Tech Student ID, go to this address:

http://www.yorktech.com/edutech/start.asp and click on the link shown below with the arrow.

 

 

 

  • Your WebCT password is your birthdate in the form mmddyy.  If you are born between January and September, leave off the leading zero.  Do not key in the 19 on your year.

 

       Example: January 6, 1998 would be 10698. 

       Example: November 24, 1995 would be 112495.

 

  • Please be aware that your password for WebCT is not the same password that you are using for Campus Cruiser.

 

3. Difficulties logging into WebCT

 

  • Recheck your WebCT username and password.
  • Check your Browser by clicking on the CHECK BROWSER link on the top right of the log-in page (http://webct.yorktech.com): to ensure your computer is compatible with WebCT.

 

 

 

  • Please also make sure that you are running a spyware check.  It can be found by going to the TECHNICAL TIDBITS link at http://www.yorktech.com/edutech/tidbits.asp.  Currently we have listed Spybot and LavaSoft as two free downloadable programs for removing spyware.

5. Success in your course

·         Orientations are provided at the beginning of Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.  The dates for the orientations are listed on the GETTING STARTED WITH WEBCT link  http://www.yorktech.com/edutech/start.asp.

·         If you cannot attend the live orientations, you can access video clips of the different tools in WebCT by going to the WEBCT VIDEOS link http://academic.yorktech.com/department/webct4/.
