The Good, The Bad, and The Reality of Following Your Dream

Eddie Pickett, owner of Quality Cleaning, and David Stringer, president of Insignia Group, provided advice gleaned from years of hands-on experience to the small business owners in attendance at the Cotton Factory on Tuesday, September 14. After enjoying a light buffet from Chef Herb Productions, the audience listened to David and Eddie recount the successes and challenges found in self-employment.

Both business owners prepared the group of potential and new business owners by noting the commitment, hard work, and lots of time required for building a successful business. The pair of entrepreneurs also gave specific advice about where to go for assistance –such as Winthrop's Small Business Development Center. Joining the local chamber of commerce and attending networking events was encouraged, as was reading to stay abreast of industry trends and learning more about one’s own business needs. Eddie and David also promoted the idea of joining industry associations and attending industry-specific conferences.

As evidenced by the lively question-and-answer session that followed the presentations, business owners from all markets and various stages of business development benefitted from the sage advice of these successful entrepreneurs.

Herb's Catering Productions provided baked ziti and mustard meatballs for the session.
