Program Overview

The Residential/Commercial Wiring Program is designed to give students the skills necessary for immediate employment in the residential or light commercial fields.  The program is credentialed by the Home Builders Institute (HBI) and the courses are taught by licensed electricians with field experience.

Students entering the program are required to take EEM 105, Basic Electricity, along with three other classes, BCT 105 (Tool Usage and Safety), BCT 112 (Construction Print Reading), and EEM 141 (Residential/Commercial Codes).  Also, students must complete a pre-requisite RDG 031  prior to enrolling in any of the above listed courses. After successfully completing the "foundation" courses students are required to take two additional courses.  These courses are mostly hands-on labs that enable students to gain field experience.  (View sequence of required courses)

The Residential/Commercial Wiring Certificate Program is offered during the daytime and evening hours. Students enrolled in the day program, can complete the Residential/Commercial Wiring Certificate in 16 weeks or in 1 semester.  Students enrolled  in the evening program can complete the certificate in 32 weeks or in 2 semesters. (View course schedule).  Appropriate attire is required for ALL students enrolled into the program in order to minimize the risk of injury. Appropriate clothing consists of durable pants, shoes, sneakers, or boots (no open-toed shoes, i.e. sandals or flip-flops), and a durable shirt that is not loose fitting.
Students who are enrolled in the program should use the following checksheet to check off completed courses and to apply for the Residential/Commercial Wiring Certificate. (View Checksheet)
