Knot Theory

Knot theory is a branch of Mathematics which deals with knots in space.  Here are some examples:

• Siefert surfaces – dip a knot in bubble solution.  (Dish detergent and a little glycerin to sturdy it)  
• Bridge number - how many times does the "cord" pass over another "cord"
• Unknotting/Gordian number -# of strands that must be switched to reach unknot.
• Links - knots which are joined together

• Prime knots - addition of knots

• Braids

• Pretzel knots

• Torus knots
