Welcome to PHS 101 - Physical
Science. Here’s the drill:
- Topics: We are interested in learning a little
bit of Physics, Chemistry, Meteorology, Geology and Astronomy this semester.
- Class/Lab: Lectures are online.
We will meet on Thursday from 9.30-10.45 for recitation to answer
homework and other questions. We will
also meet Thursday from 2-4:50 for lab. Lab reports will be submitted thru
D2L. Lab counts 25% of final grade.
- Tests:
Tests will be given in the assessment center.
All material in each module should be complete before you take the
test.
- Essay
discussions: There are three
essays you will read and discuss with the class on D2L.
All Essay discussion counts as a test.
- PHS Wiki:
Rather than write a paper this semester we will each write a couple short
wikipages. Your wiki-work counts as a
test.
- Book Homework:
Certain problems from the textbook will be due at test time. Homework counts
as a test.
- Video Lectures:
Test material will be covered in video lectures on the class website.
The slides are also in the front of the labbook.
- Class Materials: The
textbook is Physical Science.
You should also have a Labbook. These
are available at the campus bookstore.

- Mercy/Justice:
Since I drop the low grades in each of these, I will not offer makeups
for missed tests/labs/assignments, or retakes of taken tests. If you tell
me in advance or the day of the test or assignment of a serious
schedule conflict, I will consider allowing an exception.
-
Attendance/Responsibility:
Since this is adult education it is your responsibility to come to
class and to complete the assignments.
I am happy to work thru any problems that come up during the
semester, but you have to talk to me about them.
If you need to withdraw during the semester, I can do that at almost
any point – but you need to initiate the withdrawal.
Talk to me though, I would much rather see you successfully complete
the class, and often we can find a work around.
If you just stop coming, I will keep entering zeros and you will
receive whatever grade you earned.
