YORK TECHNICAL COLLEGE
Special Resources
Office
Disability Services Procedural
Guidelines
1. Students must self-identify to the Special Resources Office (SRO)
and request accommodations for a documented disability. Students requesting accommodations are
encouraged to give the SRO ample notice so that adequate time is allowed to
process requests and accommodations.
- Students must provide the SRO with current
(usually within the last 3 years) documentation of a disability by a
physician or other qualified professional (psychologist,
neuro-psychologist, psychiatrist, etc.).
Documentation guidelines are available upon request.
- The SRO will review the provided documentation
and determine if providing accommodations is reasonable, will not
cause an undue burden, and will not fundamentally alter the
course content and/or curriculum.
- If accommodations are determined to be
reasonable, the SRO will discuss with the student self-advocacy,
appropriate accommodations for each class, and learning strategies.
- REGISTER FOR YOUR COURSES EARLY!
- Students must pick up Faculty Notification Forms at
the beginning of each term to share with
instructors. Meet with your
instructors and inform them of your disability and what types of
accommodations you might expect to need.
- If extended time is granted for tests, students
will take such tests in the Assessment
Center. If more extensive accommodations are
required, student will receive additional guidelines.
- Return borrowed materials and equipment at the
end of each semester.
OTHER INFORMATION:

Services, S.C. Commission for the Blind, or other appropriate services for

Dyslexic (RFB&D) for textbooks on tape or computer disk. www.rfbd.org
