WIA Services


Intensive Services for Older Youth (ages 17-21) are provided through the WIA Services Department at York Technical College. These services are for eligible participants who have been referred from one of the local SCWorks offices (formerly known as the "One-Stop") in Chester, Lancaster, or York County. Services include the following:

  • Specialized assessments of skill levels
  • Vocational counseling
  • Career planning
  • Case management
  • Short-term pre-vocational services
  • Pre-employment occupational certification program
  • Career and skill assessment
  • Job Placement
  • Support Services

Training Programs

Participants who have met the eligibility requirements for WIA Services may be recommended for training or skill upgrading by their WIA Case Manager.

Individuals will be evaluated to assess their skill levels and qualifications. Training/skill upgrading must be linked to occupations that are in demand in the local area.

Training Factors to be considered:

  • Recommendation by Case Manager
  • Assessment of participant's skills
  • Completion of an Individual Training Account (ITA) application
  • Participant's eligibility for other sources of training funds
  • Likelihood that training will lead to long-term employment
  • Total cost of training selected
  • Acceptance into the training program selected
  • Completion of a financial aid application
  • Progress of participants approved for training will be monitored with:
    • Submission of monthly attendance forms
    • Submission of progress reports
    • Submission of grades
    • Copy of credentials
    • Case management meetings

Follow-Up Services

After a participant completes a Training Program and enters employment, the participant will receive follow-up services for an additional year. The WIA Services Department will monitor the participant's success and offer job seeking/keeping services.

Self-Service Activities

The following services are offered for public use in the WIA Services Department Resource Lab. Self-service activities include:

  • Internet access
  • Career assessment software
  • Word processing software
  • Resume preparation software
  • Access to local, regional, and national job listings
  • Labor market information
  • Community resource information
  • Job keeping/seeking information
